Past Regent's Report 2008-2009

New Orleans

Joan S. Madore   Regent 2008-2009

Hurricane Gustav postponed our meetings for a month, but we went on to have interesting and informative speakers.  Jo Ana Burke of the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation presented "Saving our Louisiana Coast."  "Personal Safety" was the topic of discussion by Col.. Nancy Pearson of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.  The favorite of the members was presented by Arthur Arcenaux.  He was a Marine Pilot in the South Pacific during WWII and kept all on the edge of their seats or laughing about his experiences.  The Christmas Tea was enjoyed by all and the collection for the veterans and our fundraiser were both very successful.  Three members presented "Treasures from our Ancestors."  The chapter was represented at Continental Congress, State Conference, August Workshop and Board of Management meetings.  Also at all District IV events; Independence Day Luncheon, Constitution Week event, and hosted the George Washington Birthday Luncheon.

Certificates and pins were presented to two winners of the DAR Good Citizen Essay contest.  An ROTC student at Tulane University received a Savings Bond.  National Day of Prayer was observed at the May Installation Luncheon by our member Rev. Kathleen Crighton.  We also participated in a Genealogy Day at the East Bank Regional Library.  A member gave an annual generous donation to Project Patriot.

We have several prospective members and a reinstatement who will be welcomed to our chapter.

New Orleans chapter regent placed flowers on graves at the American Cemetery at Normandy.
